And the whole breaking down in the sun thing.

Vitamin c also forces the skin to turn over which is what helps even out skintone but if you arent properly protecting your face during the day it wont do much. Zinc doesnt absorb into the skin and doesnt break down in the sunshine so you get a real nice layer of UVA/UVB protection.ĭont use vitamin c during the day. Photosensitivity matters because vitamin c also breaks down in the sunlight so your AM routine is kinda setting you up to not see results.

Cerave makes a clear zinc one at about the same price point. That particular one has photosensitive ingredients and break down quickly. So I'd switch up a few things before tossing it out of your routine. Neutrogena Clear Face Liquid SPF 55/Cerave AM Facial Moisturizer Let me know what you think, and I'll try to continue taking progress pictures.Ĭerave Hydrating Facial Cleanser (SA Renewing Cleanser 3x a week) I don't know much about skincare, but after browsing through this reddit, thinking maybe I have some hyperpigmentation or PIH? I'm considering The Ordinary's hyperpigmentation regimen (Alpha Arbutin 2% + HA, Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1%, Azelaic Acid Suspension 10%). Once I finish the bottle, I may try an ascorbic acid vitamin C. So far, I don't see any difference using it twice a day for six weeks. I know it may take a few months to see an effect, but wanted to post my results so far and see if anyone has recommendations. I took one picture a week in the same lighting (room with no windows) and exact same camera settings to try to keep conditions as equal as possible. Interestingly, if I layer the Cerave AM on top of the Neutrogena SPF, it will no longer pill. Not sure what it is about the AM moisturizer that causes it to pill, maybe because it's a mineral combo? Because of the pilling, I started using Neutrogena's chemical SPF in the morning. It doesn't pill when I use Cerave's PM moisturizer. I've tried rubbing in the serum more thoroughly and waiting longer for it to absorb before applying the moisturizer, but it still always pills. However, it pills significantly when I apply Cerave's AM combo SPF afterward. I like the feel and the smell of the serum, it's pretty liquidy and easy to apply. After some Googling, I decided to try Mad Hippie's Vitamin C Serum. For some reason, the vitamin C piqued my curiosity. I have a simple routine, don't really do much on my face but I recently watched a YouTube video with a dermatologist's skincare routine.
